New API could come in iOS updates, job description hints

It looks like iOS may be getting some new APIs soon, and possibly a new application as well. Where is this coming from? Apple’s very own job postings, which states that it is looking for a someone who “would like to develop the very first iPhone/iPad app that uses a new API/framework in the next version of iOS.” So, it is pretty much a given we will get new APIs released to developers in the next iOS, that isn’t the big news. That always happens. The big news is that these ones seem to be pretty special, just read this description from later in the posting:

Responsibilities in this position will include developing and maintaing a set of iOS test apps for new and exiting APIs that are released in the public iOS SDK. A significant amount of time will be spent working on feature bring-up for new APIs released to developers.

The unfortunate part is, as expected, Apple didn’t give any real specifics on what these APIs may involve. Something that stands out however is that it seems that this person will be working on a new application that will be the first to use the APIs. It remains to be seen though if these apps will only become source code in the Apple Developer Source Code library, or if it will come in the next version of iOS (hurrah for more native applications we can’t delete!). Time will tell.

What do you think? Interested in what this becomes? Hoping for a new application? Let us know in the comments, or tweet me @TiP_Kyle.
