As I’ve said before, this time of year is all about concepts. The lock screen has been an area of interest ever since the original back in 2007. Today’s concept though, is probably the most “cluttered,” if you will, that I have seen. As you can see above, it is not only a complete rethink of the “slide to unlock” idea (of which, I never see Apple moving away from), which gets replaced by a circular unlock “dial.” This also would allow for the volume to be changed, as before, a Do Not Disturb button, a camera button, music controls, message reading, and more. It is a very involved idea for the lockscreen.
While this is nice and all, I hope none of you expect to see something this drastic in the next version of iOS. To be quite honest, this just takes away the point of having a lockscreen. Isn’t the point of the lock screen to make sure that you don’t do random things on the screen while the phone is supposed to be locked? Well, with how much this puts right in your face after clicking the power or home button, it just doesn’t make sense to me. I may be alone in that thought process, however, as that is just my opinion. I just dislike this concept, as no matter how great it may sound to have this functionality on the lockscreen, it really just 1) isn’t Apple, and 2) is much too cluttered. I mean no disrespect to the designer of this concept, it just doesn’t appeal to me.
What do you think? Do you like this idea? Or do you agree with me? Let us know in the comments, or tweet me @TiP_Kyle.
