The US’ number 2 carrier, AT&T has just announced to the world that the 4th quarter of 2012 saw it achieve a huge milestone in smartphone sales. For the first time in the company’s history, it sold over 10 million smartphones, beating its previous record of 9.4 million units sold in the same quarter in 2011.
There are no prizes for guessing the top two platforms in those numbers. According to the official release, AT&T states that its best ever quarter is down to the “best quarterly sales of Android and Apple smartphones”. Hardly surprising, considering it was the iPhone 5’s first full quarter on the market, and as so many had iOS devices on top of their wish lists for Christmas. The carrier is yet to publish its full earnings report for the quarter, but we’ll not have to wait long for it, as it’s due to be published on January 24th.
