Apple’s multi-touch patent granted, only 6 years after filing

If you can track your mind back all the way to 2007, when Steve Jobs first talked us through the iPhone, you’ll recall that one of the main features of the device was multi-touch. This technology is now the industry standard, but 5 years ago it was truly revolutionary stuff, and – to paraphrase Mr. Jobs – ‘boy did Apple patent it’.

The patent in question was first filed for a year before the iPhone’s launched, in 2006, 12 months after Apple acquired gesture recognition company Fingerworks. Well, the US patent office has finally granted Apple its multi-touch patent, a full 6 years after the patent was first filed.
