IDC has released its quarterly Worldwide Connected Smart Device report today, with the clear field leaders being Samsung and Apple (surprised?). The report took into account sales of desktop PCs, portable PCs, tablets and smartphones to arrive at the final results for the third quarter of this year, with smartphones dominating the market.
From this, IDC has predicted that the sales will only grow in the holiday season, with Apple and Samsung benefiting the most from the growth. Tablets sales are expected to grow 55.8%, and smartphones 39.5%. However, although this is all well and good for manufacturers of smartphones and tablets, PC companies are expecting a decline in sales compared to the same quarter last year.
