Google has just released version 1.4.3 of its Google Voice app for iOS. The new update contains iOS 6 support, support for the iPhone 5’s 16:9 screen, and of course the ubiquitous “bug fixes.”
– Optimized for iPhone 5 and iOS 6
– Bug fixes and performance enhancements
– iOS 4.3 or above is now required
Also of note, the app will now only support devices on iOS 4.3 or higher. This excludes original iPhone and iPhone 3G users, as both were not able to be updated to iOS 4.3 (the iPhone 3G ending its run at 4.2.1.) Luckily, it doesn’t seem like this update is entirely necessary or useful for users of those devices.
Let’s add this to the growing list of major iOS apps (even just those from Google, specifically) that have taken quite a long time to be updated for iOS 6 and the iPhone 5. To be fair, Google has its own stuff going on, but it often seems like it intentionally dampens the experience of Google services on iOS devices in order to direct attention toward Android devices.
Do you use Google Voice? If so, has this update provided any significant enhancements for you?
