Data from analytics firm App Annie Intelligence has shown that worldwide, Apple’s iOS App store is making 4 times the revenue of Android rival Google Play. The overall notion here should be pretty promising for Apple, however there is concern that the App store isn’t growing at the same rate as the Google Play store, in fact, the growth comparison is rather astonishing.
In the last year, Google play’s revenue growth is 311%, compared to an iOS increase of just 12.9%.
According to App Annie:
“the gap between global revenues on iOS and Google Play is still there, but the gap is shrinking every month, creating more opportunities for publishers to generate significant revenue growth in several countries on Google Play.”
Update: According to Apple, App Annie is way off target, claiming that the revenue growth of the App Store is actually over 200%.
Whilst the matter still remains unclear, it seems certain that Google Play is growing faster than the App Store. Is this a worrying sign for Apple?
