Apple silently adds unique app highlights to App Store categories

App discovery has always been difficult, but Apple has been taking strides in iOS 6 to rectify this issue.

First, Apple unveiled Genius for Apps, which finds apps suited to you by examining the apps that you have downloaded and use. Next, they greatly improved their App Store search function on iOS, showing card-style results with much more information about each app.

Today, Apple has quietly added a new function. The App Store now has a section of highlighted apps for each category, rather than just one section of highlighted apps across all categories.

I have personally seen a very significant improvement in my app’s sales since iOS 6 was released, though it may not have been the direct cause of the increase. Do you guys think Apple’s new tactics for app discovery are helping users and developers?
