Recovered iPhone still powers on after 6 months underwater

I don’t know about you, but if I dropped my iPhone in a lake I’d consider it a lost cause. I wouldn’t dream of recovering the device in working order 30 seconds after retrieving it from the watery depths, let six months later. Though, in an unlikely turn of events, that’s exactly what happened to Ken Hovanes.

Hovanes wrote in to 9to5 Mac six months ago sharing his iHorror story – basically, he dropped his iPhone off a dock and the lake water was too murky to even attempt to find it. Since then, he purchased a new phone and had all but moved on from the experience. But this weekend, thanks to lower water levels and clearer water, he was actually able to find his old iPhone and retrieve it from its watery grave. Pretty unexpected, right? Well that’s nothing compared to the surprise Hovanes must have felt when he discovered the phone still worked!

Of course, there are some issues with the device (warped body, WiFi connection problems, screen problems) but, when connected to a power source, the phone powers on! The 30-pin connector is pretty dirty, but Hovanes is reportedly working on cleaning it so he can retrieve all the pictures he thought he’d lost.

Have you guys ever experienced any similar iMiracles? Let me know in the comments section below or on twitter @TiP_Jake.

what lake was it? High Rock Lake? because they are draining it 7 feet due to the dam having erosion problems

I had two experiences like that...

1) I left my 3g on my roof of my car, and it fell off when i was going around a turn around 45mph. It hit the pavement, slider case popped open and the iPhone went into the ditch where it sat under a foot of water for about 30 min, til I was able to find it.

2) I put my iPhone 4 through a full cycle wash when doing laundry.

Both phones worked totally fine until the day I upgraded to a newer phone.  Not quiet 6 months, but I'm still impressed!

Totally amazing. Is it an iPhone 4 or 4s?

Yes. Dropped phone in standing water in OtterBox case and it set there overnight. Got out next morning, let sit for a day and turned on and everything is fine.
