The iPhone 5 was preordered almost as much in 3 days as the iPhone 4S was in a month

Did you preorder the iPhone 5? You weren’t alone. We already knew that, because you probably heard that 2 million were ordered in the first 24 hours. Now we are hearing a report that, thought very crazy, is not too hard to believe. According to Comscore, the iPhone 5 has sold 96% the amount the iPhone 4S did in one month, in a mere 3 days. That is crazy.

I find this somewhat comical for one reason – many tech bloggers said that this wasn’t that big of an upgrade. I will agree, in some ways it is not. But, you have to remember the company we are talking about. Apple sold twice as many iPhone 5’s in the first 24 hours as the iPhone 4S did last year. The 4S beat out the iPhone 4 that came before it. It is a seemingly never ending cycle.

Also regarding preorder numbers, Comscore also mentioned that AT&T had the most total preorder numbers, holding 68% of the total. AT&T also had the most within the first 24 hours, but lost some ground to Verizon within the next few days, still however holding out the top. It is quite interesting however, as when you look only at “search queries” you will find that Verizon by far was looked for more often.

What do you think? Did you preorder? Which carrier did you choose? Let us know in the comments.

I’m sorry but if tech bloggers and others are disappointed by the lackluster update, how does pointing to sales invalidate their argument. The iPhone 5 was going to sell regardless, nobody doubted that. Let’s be honest most  Apple fans buy Apple products just because.

@One3OneKing That’s right, public are idiots, they’re all just iSheep.. blah, blah, blah..

Got mine through atnt don’t understand why these haters always have a comment about apple just keep playing with your widgets and leave us alone

@TiP_Cam well no, not idiots but the idea of having the new iPhone often trumps any reports that may criticize Apple for a lot of Apple fans. To say that people are buying this phone because it’s a good upgrade is a stretch. Saying that people are buying this simply because it’s the new iPhone is more frank but c’mon let’s be real here, I believe thats closer to the truth.

I was at the apple store this morning with my girlfriend updating her phone to the iPhone 5 and the apple guy asked if I was getting one to and I said I sadly have to wait til October 10th as that is when my contract is eligible for an upgrade and the apple guy said he was waiting for the same date. It hit me that I got the Verizon iPhone 4 on the day it came and the apple guy said he did the same meaning that anybody on Verizon is either paying the earlier upgrade fee if they have an iPhone or there upgrading from a non iPhone. This could explain why AT&T has about 70% of the preorders as many people don’t want to pay the upgrade fee and are just waiting about another month to upgrade.

@One3OneKing when millions MORE buy a newer iphone versus the 4S, thats a ton of sheep. Your beliefs are immaterial. It is a good upgrade because people believe it to be. You are not smarter than millions of people. Just dumber.

@Guest911  Calling me dumber? Great comeback. The Galaxy Nexus and ICS was a huge upgrade over the Nexus S and Gingerbread but it didn’t sell nearly as well as the iPhone. Wonder why? Doesn’t have anything at all to do with the brand. (sarcasm). Would it have sold loads more if it was made by Apple and theoretically called the iNexus? YES, yes it would have.
