At its most powerful configuration, Apple’s PowerBook, the predecessor of the MacBook Pro line, was a full inch thick, weighed up to a whopping seven pounds, and could run you up to 2 and a half grand. It must have been one heck of a machine, right? Well, in a recent benchmark test measuring processing speed, this powerhouse PowerBook was bested by none other than the iPhone 5. With the A6 processor scoring a 1,600 geek bench score and the PowerBook scoring a 1,000, the iPhone 5 smashes the PowerBook.

To be fair, these gadgets were born in very different technological landscapes. But even still, to think that the most powerful laptops from just seven years ago are outmatched by something we carry in our pockets is kind of amazing. Oh technology and your advancements.
