iMessage down for the count? [UPDATE: Back up and running]

By complete happenstance (wow, apparently that’s a real word) I seem to have discovered a pretty major outage (confirmed when I noticed an iMore article just minutes later. My wife had asked me to text her, so I did, only to see that the dang iMessage just wouldn’t send. At all. This was almost twenty minutes ago, and the progress bar is still agonizingly close to the end.

I wanted to know if you guys were experiencing the same? If so, you can switch them off in settings until service resumes.

[UPDATE: Just a few moments after hitting the “publish” button, it looks like it’s back up and running as normal. We’ll keep our ears on the ground, see if there’s any official word from Apple on the outage.]

    mine was not working from around 6pm BST and just started working again now

    currently at an apple store just shopping around and many customers are in here with the same problem. Employees are telling them to turn off imessage for the mean time. They’re telling them its not a hardware problem, its a server problem.

    It went twice today for me, I’m sure Apple are just getting ready for ios6 roll out, wasn’t a major¬†inconvenience.¬†
