Apple gives nod to alternative map apps
Following the iOS 6 maps debaucle, Apple has just launched a new initiative in the App Store, showing users alternative navigation and maps software.
The development comes following Tim Cook’s open letter of apology regarding Apple’s map software, which is littered with errors and highly unreliable. The new section brings together several different apps including Waze social GPS traffic & Gas, NAVIGON USA, Bing for iPad and MotionX GPS Drive.
I think this is very noble gesture. It takes guts to admit to such a significant error, especially when it comes from a company as large as Apple. This further action wasn’t necessary, and Apple should be applauded for carrying out the initiative. Apple’s decision to offer alternatives in this fashion will undoutedly have an effect on the userbase that returns to Apple’s own map software once it is fixed, so I can’t imagine this decision was taken lightly.

It doesn't require any guts to admit any significant error. You are proclaiming like Tim Cook did a GODLY job of admitting the mistake and how cool is that? People make mistakes and some people admit, some may not. Apple knows they shitted on Maps app and it is a laughing stock for everyone. Moreover, Google is pumped up about it and probably not provide immediate solution to iOS6. It is called competition and sometimes you have to swallow a bullet in pressure and lure the customer in hope of "we will improve". That is a part of any business deal and it has nothing to do how "cool" Apple is. Google Maps is "lightning years" ahead of Apple and it will take years to even come close to Google.
You want to know what "guts" is then have them put a statement saying, if you hate our iOS6 maps, simply return the money and ask for full refund. That is called guts and balls to convey that if you can't trust our product, don't bother buying.
