It seems like everything these days is pointing to the impending release of the mysterious new iPhone. The latest: yet another price drop from Sprint. Recently the carrier brought the price as low as $149, now it has dropped all the way to $49 (this with a $100 rebate card of course, you didn’t think there wouldn’t be a catch did you?)

And of course, even better, Apple is now matching these prices, though they will be matching with a $100 Apple store giftcard rather than an American Express card. Also, don’t forget about that required two year contract!

Sprint has really been ferocious about its iPhone prices lately, and for what reason? I’m gonna continue to assume it’s related to the upcoming iPhone, but who knows? There certainly could be other factors at play. Mac Rumors speculates that it could have something to do with those billions of dollars the company has invested in the iPhone. One can only wonder.
