Schematics for the “iPad mini” surface
Time for some more rampant speculation folks! Yesterday, 9to5 Mac reported that the seemingly inevitable iPad mini would look like a larger version of an iPod touch, with incredibly thin bezels down the side. 9to5 Mac has received various tip-offs over the last couple of weeks, and this design feature seems to be a reocurring theme. They’ve also been sent a number of backplates that seem to support this theory. Below is a mock-up of the “iPad mini”, alongside the standard iPad and the iPod touch.

Yesterday that article was written with skepticism, until the folks over at 9to5 Mac remembered some iPad mini schematics they’d stumbled upon a few months ago. Originally posted by ThinkiOS, these schematics match up perfectly with the concept that was reported on yesterday, as you can see below.

Now, having studied the schematics a little, I’m slightly more convinced than I was 10 minutes ago. Why? Take a look at the mock-up iPad mini above, it looks ridiculous. Seriously, no-one would buy that. However, the bezels in the ThinkiOS schematics have a much better proportion, and so I’m beginning to think that if there is an iPad mini, then this design is a plausible representation of the form the iPad mini will take.

What do you think? Are you convinced by any of these rumors? Will there even be an iPad mini? Leave your comments below!
