Rumor: New iPhone dock connector may only be 9-pin

Looks like we’re starting to learn all kinds of cool things from iOS 6. Remember that whole 19-pin dock connector that TechCrunch and Reuters supposedly confirmed not too long ago for the new iPhone? (think sometime last month). Well after that some other numbers like 8 or 9 pins circulating, 9to5 Mac seems to have dug up a reference to “9pin” in the actual iOS 6 code.
That number would support the “18% thinner” rumor that surfaced this morning, apparently a dock of either 8 or 9 pins would make that size plausible. I can really only see this as being a good thing, I mean, who doesn’t want a thinner phone? Plus this would put apple much more in line with the competition, if you compare the iPhone 4S to something like Motorola’s newer phones which are razr thin (see what I just did there?), Apple is really getting beat in that department. There are also new leaked photos from French site Nowhereelse.fr that show the casing with a metal ring inside the dock connector (MagSafe maybe!? Might just be wishful thinking…anyway see the above photo and decide for yourself).
What are your thoughts internet? Is this confirmation? How do you feel about legions of accessories potentially becoming obsolete? Let us know in the comments.

I say, if Apple is going to change the port, I also want a 'MagSafe Mini' as the connector. That would be a huge selling point. Tripping over the wire no longer makes your pretty iPhone fall off your desk. Super easy to connect the wire to the device. Am I the only one who has issues plugging the 30-pin to the 4th Gen iPod touch ?
