Apple’s maps triumph over Google

 

Right before Apple revealed their new mapping and navigation service for iOS 6, Google tried to win consumers over with their own variation, Google Maps 3D. Apple’s three dimensional maps may still be in developer beta, but they already have twice as many cities to view as Google’s 3D offering, and in my opinion, are much more detailed then Google’s.

Now we can mark another point in the win column for Apple in the everlasting battle for mobile software supremacy. Unless of course you disagree, and love Google’s 3D maps. Tell me in the comments.

So it'll take longer to load Apple Maps. Somehow this is good. There is a line you have to draw between being pretty, and being useful. Anyways, you are comparing this to the old Google Maps for iOS which is kinda funny because it sucked on purpose. Google Maps for Android is absolutely fantastic, wouldn't change it for anything. Anyways, 3D maps is basically the same thing as Siri, fun to show off to your friends but otherwise pointless.

this is not "another win for apple in the mobile wars." this is a "win for the many many companies that apple licensed their maps data from and threw their name upon." if you want to talk about real innovation, hard work, and development effort, it goes to google, who created their entire mapping system from the ground up. this article is so dumb.

I for one will very much miss "street view" I use it fairly frequently. I've found it a very useful option. I'm thinking, for the first time ever, not to update my iPad but only my phone to ios 6 so as I can keep street view.

Apple maps look like everything else Apple makes. Really pretty, but not very useful. I can imagine the first news story about Apple maps. "I used my iphone for a road trip, the directions were wrong and I ended up crashed into a field.... But it looked AMAZING!"

@TiP_Cam @mindoversoul I agree; Apples map app is tremendously improved over Googles Map service for iOS. I used the new map app on a trip from Texas to Michigan, = 1,090 miles, and I was not the only one wowed, so were my parents. Infact my mom was so wowed she has decided to buy an iPad. Thankfully apple released iOS 6 Beta 3 before we left; due to the performance improvement.

@TiP_Cam I did actually read your article. I am going off of my personal experience with iOS for the last 4 years. It's cumbersome difficult to use and puts form over function far too much. I have never had it perform any task well or easily. Everything takes far too many steps and the things that don't, don't work very well.

Well, while Apple's version of 3D Maps is prettier than Google's or Google Earths to be quite frank, its a useless featureGoogle's version of Maps is their own and Apple's isn't... you can't really give Apple credit for tech that they didn't even create

also, when it comes to Maps we still have to see how Apple does with Navigation the only real thing that maters when it comes to Maps

3D Map Wars is a waste of time... review navigation, THEN, will your post really mater

Why do you actually care? This is a completely useless feature, it's a gimmick. Google Maps beats out the Apple Maps in every other regard.
