Apple getting ready for September iMac refresh?
Across the United States, many major apple retailers have recently been experiencing shortages of the 27 inch iMac, and with Apple’s rumored September 12 event just around the corner, could this mean we can expect a new iMac line up in the next month?
According to AppleBitch.com, retailers such as Amazon, J&R and Best Buy are all experiencing these shortages, particularly in the high end 3.1 Ghz 27 inch model, and don’t know when they’ll have more in stock.
As of yet, however, the shortages have been exclusive to the 27 inch model, and it is unclear why the 21.5 inch iMacs haven’t been affected, but time will soon tell, as September 12 is just a few weeks away.
A new iMac is long overdue in my view. The world beating all-in-one hasn’t had a major refresh in well over a year, and we were all so disappointed when all we got at WWDC were a few MacBooks. Don’t get me wrong, they’re great, but come on, we wanted iMacs! These shortages do also correspond to the benchmark of an unreleased iMac model that was posted on the internet shortly after WWDC. This benchmark showed the mysterious computer running one of Intel’s IvyBridge processors, something the current range don’t have. Plus, to add one more layer to the speculation cake, there have been many rumors that state Apple is planning a Retina iMac display, so we may see a slightly redesigned ‘Retina iMac’ to go along with some non-redesigned IvyBridge iMacs, but obviously, we don’t know yet.
In the meantime, happy anticipating!
