Rumor: Next gen iPod touch to resemble rumored “iPhone 5″ mixed with new iPad

It’s nice to have a break from iPhone 5 rumors, even if it is to focus on the latest speculation surrounding a much forgotten device: the iPod touch. Apple’s most popular portable media player has been ignored by Cupertino’s design team since 2010 and it’s high time it got updated. If the latest rumors are true, it will be.

Macotakara, a popular Apple blog in Japan, has released a report stating that the next iPod touch will have the same display as that which is rumored to be built in to the iPhone 5. The longer, 4″ Retina display will allegedly grace the front of the 5th generation iPod touch. If the source is accurate, we could see a brushed aluminum back on the touch as well as an A5 chip.

It is a rumor, and should be taken as such. That said, it’s not a crazy “out-there” stab in the dark. In fact, if Apple didn’t release an updated iPod this year with the features mentioned, I’d be very surprised. As yet there’s no further information on what other features it will include. Whether or not it will feature a 3G chip, or if it supports Siri. I guess we’ll find out in the next few months.
