iPhones replacing Blackberries for Australian airline

Quantas, an Australian airline, is making headlines because the company just revealed it’s planning to replace every one of the 1,300 Blackberry devices it distributes to its employees with iPhones. Reportedly the reason for the switch is a combination of the cost overhead and employee opinions. The transition will be gradual, but it’s safe to say that this is definitely not good news for the Blackberry maker RIM.

This is pretty significant for a number of reasons, most notable of which is the fact that Blackberry has, for years, been the one and only choice for corporate accounts. When the iPhone came out, this was Blackberry’s one saving grace. But now that iOS has been equipped with many important business features, Apple has managed to invade this category as well.

What are your thoughts about the iPhone’s growing corporate presence? What will it mean for Blackberry down the road? Sound off down below in the comments section or on twitter @TiP_Jake.

I'm very sorry for RIM, I had to send my iPhone into warranty again so I bought a Blackberry 8310 as a back-up phone. I've been using it for two weeks now (yes, the iPhone still hasn't returned) and I have to say, RIM makes pretty decent phones.

It's sad to see them loose ground, especially in the corporate market. But even today, owning a Blackberry doesn't come cheap, I have an unlimited data plan, which costs me 11 euros a month, and RIM is asking for another 7.5 euros just so RIM native apps can use my unlimited connection? Ridiculous. (oh yeah, I live in Romania, internet is cheap and fast here compared to other countries, but medium wage is also low).

In an age when the iPhone is giving you iMessage and Facetime for free, Blackberry has to be crazy to maintain it's Blackberry data plan prices, or to have a more expensive phone then the iPhone.Hopefully the new management will fix these issues. I'd hate to loose Blackberry as well, Palms lose hurt pretty bad :)
