iOS leading mobile web share with nearly 2/3 lead

It’s always interesting to see polls and statistics involving multiple operating systems. It gives the consumer more info and it helps show areas where some businesses might be better than others. This is one of those charts. Apple has helped revolutionize the mobile phone industry, so it shouldn’t come as a shock that they lead this statistic.

According to a new statistic that is out from NetApplication, thanks to iDownload Blog, Apple is currently leading the mobile web share race with a huge margin. The statistic, which shows iOS, Android, Java, Blackberry, and Symbian, helps show where each operating system is at in terms of mobile web usage. Apple currently leads with a whopping 65.27 percent. Android comes in second with 19.73 percent, but the real sad story is RIM, which falls in last with 0 percent in web usage.

I think this is telling on several different levels. One, it shows just how widespread iOS devices currently are. There are millions of iPhones, iPads, and iPods out there, so it shouldn’t be too surprising that Apple is at the top. Second, it shows the huge margin gap between Apple and Android in term of mobile web usage. And lastly, it shows just how far RIM has fallen. Having once been near the top of the competition heap, it’s kinda sad to seem them come in last in this statistic too.

Do you guys have an opinion on this? Surprised, not surprised? Chime in and let us know.
