GameDock transforms your iPhone in to an old-school console
If – like me – you grew up in the age of the Super Nintendo, Gameboy, Mega Drive and Commodore 64, you are going to love this. A new KickStarter project has hit the popular fundraising site that turns your iPhone in to an old console. GameDock is exactly what the name suggests. It’s a dock that allows you to use your phone as a gaming system.
Have you ever played a great retro game on your iPhone, only to be frustrated with the touch controls? Or have you wanted to play an awesome iPad game with a friend, but two people holding one tablet just doesn’t feel right? With the GameDock for iOS you can play classic games the way they were meant to be played: with two controllers and a TV. Just plug the dock into your TV like a video game console and your iOS device into the dock like a game cartridge. The GameDock is designed to be compatible with existing iCade games and for dock-ready games that include two-player support and full 1080p HDTV output
GameDock connects to your TV and comes with two retro designed controls. The system is compatible with any game that supports the already popular iCade gaming accessories, providing that they use the old school standard two-button control. It’s compatible with any iOS device, and you can get your hands on one of the first ones released if you pledge $100 on KickStarter.
Personally, I avoid retro games on iPhone but only because of the onscreen, virtual buttons. More often than not, they just get in the way. Having a physical solution like this not only makes it a more tactile experience, but also takes you back to your childhood. It takes you back to when Mario Karts was the best game in the world (still is in my opinion) and Flight of the Navigator was the coolest movie. I’ll do everything I can to get my hands on one of these.
