Former iAd chief Andy Miller joins Leap Motion

The Next Web had some interesting news to share today. Former iAd chief at Apple, Andy Miller, has been named COO and President of Leap Motion. Leap Motion, if you don’t know, is a company working to bring motion controls to desktops (see above video). Miller was the founder of a mobile advertising firm by the name of Quattro Wireless, which Apple went on to acquire, bringing him to Apple. He left last August though, to take a position in venture capital.

Leap Motion introduced an innovative way of bringing touch-free motion controls to computers, using nothing more than a small USB device, and gestures of your hand. They currently offer a preorder of the device for $70, which will be compatible with OS X and Windows, and is expected to ship late this year or early next year. Via The Next Web:

“I’ve been fortunate to work with some of the most influential figures and companies in the technology industry, and I’m as excited about the Leap as I’ve ever been about a technology,” said Miller. “The potential for the Leap is limitless, as it is going to fundamentally change the way we interact with so many devices in our lives. I’m thrilled to come on board and looking forward to growing Leap Motion into the technology powerhouse it’s on the road to becoming.”

What do you think? Do you like the idea of this and are interested in it? Wondering why they would bring in an advertising guru to run the company? Let us know in the comments.
