Somehow, The Verge managed to get hold of what appears to be some of the most exciting leaked photos in Apple land. With every product Cupertino designs, it goes through a series of tested prototypes, each kept in secrecy. We never really get to see what’s going on behind closed doors at Infinite Loop. It’s precisely the reason why I’m not all that fussed what leaked parts show up between now and October. They could all be from a prototype, and the iPhone 5 may look nothing like what we expect.
These leaked images show some of Apple’s early ideas of what the iPhone and iPad could look like. The iPhone was tried out as a candybar phone (N90) with a small display, and presumably, touch sensitive buttons. There are also a handful of purely touchscreen designs with one device looking like it’s a giant iPod with a huge display on the front. My guess: Apple tried out a version with a hard drive in it, instead of the final flash storage solution.
With the iPad, they generally all look like big displays. It’s the back design that’s pretty intriguing. One of them had a kickstand attached! Can you image? Glad the guys decided to say no to that one. That said, Apple did look at the possibility of including a 16:9 ratio widescreen, before deciding that the current aspect ratio was a better fit for the tablet’s purpose. There are a few images below in the gallery. To see the entire set, head on over to The Verge.
