If you’ve ever gotten sick of the stock mail-client on the iPhone, you know it’s not that easy to find a replacement. Sparrow was unveiled a little over a year ago as a desktop replacement for Apple Mail. It had a striking resemblance to Twitter’s application, and worked almost exactly the same way. However, instead of dealing with 140 characters, it dealt with emails. A few months after the desktop version was released, Sparrow was released for the iPhone. It wasn’t free though. It’s starting price was $2.99. Well, luckily for you, Sparrow is on-sale today for just 99¢ in the US App Store.
Sparrow was also recently updated with POP (an email protocol used by AOL), in addition to its IMAP (used by Gmail, Yahoo, iCloud) support. Sparrow can support pretty much any email without a problem. The only thing that might cause a problem is Exchange based email. Exchange is seen in most corporate environments, so your business email might not work with Sparrow.
There’s also confirmed reports of Sparrow coming to the iPad, however there’s no word on whether or not Sparrow will be a Universal (works on both iPhone and iPad) application. If it is, this might be the perfect opportunity to get a nice email replacement on your iPad on the cheap as well.
The price is 99¢ today, $1.99 tomorrow, and back to $2.99 on Friday.
