Retina Macbook Pros Sold Out

Just one day after its announcement at WWDC, Apple’s Retina display Macbook has sold out.

The 15″ Macbook sports the world’s highest resolution display ever put into a laptop, and costs a cool $2,200. When that price emerged, I imagine many were skeptical about how well it would sell, Apple has always been known for its premium products, but this is really, really expensive.

However, by yesterday morning, less than 24 hours after the WWDC keynote, the shipping times on the Macbook Pro had risen to at least 3 weeks.

The epic display has received huge praise since its release, however many believe this is also the cause of the supply issues, because naturally, it takes a lot longer to make than the other displays…

If you’re desperate, you could head over to eBay, where the new Macbooks are appearing for around $1000 more than the original price, an almost 50% markup. Expect to see very big numbers when Apple releases its results for the next fiscal quarter.

I was hoping they were going to update the IMacs. That being said that's still what I'll get next.

Tonybabo I reckon they're holding back because they wanted to see how the Retina display fares in a low risk PC - if this didn't take off then it's no real loss because the other MacBook Pros are still available. Now that they have seen it's success they will most defintelly be looking to put Retina across the board in all their PC models.

JoshAlfred Agree.  Also, the MacBook Pro, at lower volumes that the Air and iMac, can be delivered in volumes sufficient to serve its market, whereas a Retina iMac or Air might have overwhelmed even Apple's production lines.  I bet between the new iPad and the Retina MacBook Pro, Apple's production capacity for these displays is near max'd out.  Another concern is the cost.  You don;t want to put these expensive displays in your less costly Airs (driving up the costs and retail price) right at the time when the Windows camp is about to launch their own slim line of laptops that compete directly with the Airs.  No need to do that.  As for the iMac, a Retina display on one of those will be an expensive prospect indeed, as they start at 21.5 inches.  Wow, what would the resolution of that be?  4000 x something?  Nope, we'll see the Airs get these displays when the manufacturing costs come down (in about a year) and then the iMac maybe a year after that, if ever.
