INSTEON brings first iOS controlled light bulb

It seems almost like there is a race to get light-controlling applications and services for iOS. Just this past week we wrote about how Lextar was awaiting certification from Apple for it’s own LED based lighting controls for iOS, and now it looks like INSTEON has got their own idea out and ready. The bulb is a part of their SmartHome range, and comes with a radio transceiver embedded into a 60-watt LED bulb, which then connects via a proprietary network to an accompanying application on the iPhone. Using the application you can fine tune the level of the lighting over the entire house from your iOS devices, or even set “scenes” to quickly jump to different settings. I think this is a cool idea, and wouldn’t mind picking one up just to play around with.

What do you think? Is this a waste? Will you use it? Do you want it but want to wait to see what might come later? Let us know in the comments.
