I don’t know about you, but aside from the late Steve Jobs, Jony Ive is one of my favorite Apple employees to read about. Whenever he has an interview or releases a statement of some sort, it’s always worth taking note of. Recently Mr. Ive was interviewed during his trip to the U.K. (his home country) to be knighted.
The interviewer from The Telegraph asked Ive which Apple design he believes he will be most remembered for, to which Jony had this to say:
“It’s a really tough one. A lot does seem to come back to the fact that what we’re working on now feels like the most important and the best work we’ve done, and so it would be what we’re working on right now, which of course I can’t tell you about.”
The interviewer then asked if Ive would respond to the Queen by saying that he couldn’t tell her if she asked about the new design of the next iPhone, and Jony said, “That would be funny,” without actually answering the question.
Though there are most likely many products hidden in the top-secret, highly guarded lair that is Ive’s design studio, it is also believed to house a prototype for the rumored Apple television. Could that be what he is referring to?
What do you think? Is Ive hinting at something new, or saying that the next version of an already released product will be radically different? Do you hope it’s the Apple television or a better iPhone 5? Let us know in the comments.
