If you’ve ever wanted a Mophie Juicepack combined with an Otterbox Defender case, you’re in luck. Seidio has released a really versatile battery pack/case that offers backup power for your iPhone as well as incredible protection (if you want it.)

Seidio’s Surface Plus and Convert Plus combo is made up of 6 parts. Firstly, you have the Surface Plus battery pack (3 parts: battery, cover and frame) which costs $69.95 if bought separately. Essentially, on its own it is a cheaper alternative to the Mophie Juicepack that comes with the added bonus of having a removable 1700mAh battery. (Spare batteries cost $45.) As it is, it isn’t incredibly protective. Having three parts means that there’s more chance of it falling apart if dropped. To apply, you slide it on to your iPhone and connect it to the 30-pin connector, after inserting the battery. Then, you clip on the frame (which is a little flimsy.) To operate, press and hold the power button and it charges up your device. To refill it you plug it in to a Micro USB-equipped cable or power adapter.

If you want extreme protection, you can buy the CONVERT Plus Combo which comes with the aforementioned battery pack and a 3-piece protective case. There’s a thick rubber lining that fits snugly over the Surface Plus pack, then cover that with the harder plastic outer shell. If you want even more protection you can fit the harder plastic and micro-fiber lined front cover. The combo pack costs $89.95, or $99.95 if you want the two belt clip covers, one for the SURFACE Plus and another for the CONVERT Plus Combo when the pieces are all installed.

If I’m honest, I probably wouldn’t consider the battery pack on its own. What makes this set up unique is that you can add extra protection. If I was just after a battery I’d buy a Mophie, or the Incipio OffGRID, the build quality of those seems better. But not having to plug my iPhone in for 3 days, and knowing that it will survive even the worst of drops is a tremendously reassuring.
