New iPad demand “off the charts” – shipping times slip back further

It may already seem like an age ago, but, the new iPad has only been available for pre-order since Wednesday evening, and already the stock has sold out. Apple’s estimated shipping times have slipped back to 2-3 weeks after an intensive bout of tablet hungry consumers virtually stampeded online to ensure they were the first to get one of Cupertino’s latest tablets. Apple told USA Today:

“Customer response to the new iPad has been off the charts and the quantity available for pre-order has been purchased,” Apple said in a statement. “Customers can continue to order online and receive an estimated delivery date.”

So, if you absolutely have to get hold of an iPad on launch day, you will have to line up outside an Apple store. And, if London’s Regent Street store is anything to go by, you should have started queuing at the weekend. Seriously, I’d consider lining up early in the morning on day of launch, but not 6 days before the event – that’s insane. (Let’s hope they get Samsunged. Where’s Justin Hawkins and his pink jumpsuit when you need him?)
