Over the past two or three days, the web has exploded with iPad 3 rumors. From leaked screens and back plates to Wall Street Journal articles, we now have a decent list of features for the next-gen tablet that seems pretty reliable. Some of the highlights include:
- 2048×1536 Retina display
- Apple A6 processor
- Faster GPU
- Better cameras
- Larger battery (for same 10-12 hour runtime)
- Dual mode GSM/CDMA
- iOS 5.1
If these rumors pan out (and it seems pretty likely that they will), the iPad 3 will be quite an awesome device. My only complaint is that alone, none of these features are “revolutionary.” In fact, it’s been a while since Apple has really surprised us… most of its product releases of late have been more of a refresh than a totally new device.
Of course, I’m writing this before the iPad 3 has been officially announced, so there’s a possibility that I’m totally wrong and Apple has some completely unexpected, amazing “one more thing” up it’s sleeve. But, for the purposes of this article, let’s assume that Apple’s plan for the iPad 3 consists of the features listed above, and you had the power to choose big-finale, revolutionary feature. What awesome fantasy feature do you want to see in the iPad 3?
Personally, I think it would be awesome if the next-gen iPad had a holographic screen. Forget 3D and Retina… what if the iPad 3 could display iOS in a three-dimensional, interactive hologram projected from the screen?  I mean, it’s probably going to be a few more years before anything like that is a reality, but I dare you to watch the video below and not want that.
