iPad 3 to cost $80 more?

A leaked price chart has shown up on MacRumors site not long ago. In it are the prices of the current iPad alongside those of the upcoming third generation tablet. Surprisingly, if this information is correct (and I very much doubt it is) Apple will be hiking the iPad prices up by $80 per model.

There are a couple of reasons why I can’t see this as being likely. Firstly, the source is from China, and somehow has pricing information for American products. I can’t imagine why anyone – even if they worked at Foxconn – would have iPad prices in US Dollars. Secondly, the iPad’s “motto” is “a magical and revolutionary device at an unbelievable price“. Taking the basic model WiFi-only model from $499 to $579, and pushing the most expensive model to one Dollar short of $900 makes the iPad seem a little too pricey.

Personally, I’m thinking prices will stay the same. iPhone prices have hardly changed at all with each update, iPads shouldn’t be any different, even if it has a better display. What are your thoughts? Will you still buy an iPad if it costs $80 more, or is the Kindle Fire starting to look more and more attractive?
