The Incipio Silicrylic is a slim, two-piece case made of Silicone and Polycarbonate. Its protective qualities are matched by its looks, and few cases feel better in hand. Fantastic experience, only marred slightly by its attraction to dust and fluff.
Incipio is a brand introduced to me by one of my twitter followers, and one which I hadn’t heard of. The company makes cases and accessories for various gadgets, iPhone and iPad clothing obviously included in its arsenal. The Silicrylic joins a long line of two-piece protective cases. Its Silicone sleeve is soft and extremely – for want of a better word – floppy, until put to use. Once the iPhone is encased in the Silicone, and inserted in to the harder Polycarbonate support, the soft sleeve is held in tension and feels secure.
The case, unlike many hybrids, is incredibly simple to assemble and apply. Thankfully, removing is also a piece of cake. After applying the harder shell to the Silicone sleeve, you do need to check around the case to make sure none of the softer material is caught in the wrong place. It doesn’t take much effort, and doesn’t encourage frustration.
Once applied, the case shines (not literally – mine was matte black). The soft, textured coating feels fantastic in hand and – thanks to its shock absorption – you know it will handle most bumps and scrapes. It’s no Otterbox or Tank, but it provides adequate protection without adding the bulk. It comes with a screen protector, so you don’t have to worry about marking your iPhone’s glass display. I also love that on the black case, from arm’s length you can’t tell that it’s made of two parts. There are other color combinations if that’s not a big deal to you, 13 more to be exact.
If I had one issue with the case it was that it liked dust and fluff a little too much. The soft, almost sticky exposed parts of the Silicone sleeve collected matter in little time, and it wasn’t easy to brush off. Saying that, I place high value on how something feels in hand, and quality of look and build. This case is fantastic. Certainly worth $30 of your hard-earned cash.
