Sick of the slow download speeds and below-average features of the native iOS Youtube app? Looking for a great substitute? Check out “ProTube”, a brand new Cydia application that has completely overshadowed that abomination of a YouTube app that Apple has left us with since iOS 1.0.
‘Why should I choose ProTube?’, you may ask. Well, voice-that-is-inside-of-my-head, there a many, many reasons why ProTube should be your weapon of choice when it comes to browsing YouTube.
Reason 1: User interface.
Since ProTube directly connects to the mobile YouTube website, you automatically get the beautifully crafted interface of the mobile site, plus tons of other goodies that are implemented flawlessly into the design of the app.
Reason 2: Download videos.
If you are like me and love to download tons and tons of videos, simply to have them available to you later for offline use, ProTube may just be awesome enough to replace that gaping hole that your ex-wife has left in your heart. Why? Because not only does ProTube allow you to download any video, but it also allows you to instantly transfer that video directly into your “Videos” app! It just works. It’s pretty handy if you know you’re heading out to an area with no data connection.
Reason 3: 720p video at 240p speeds.
Remember the days of the original iPhone, the iPhone 3G, and the iPhone 3GS? Me neither, but that’s beside the point. Do you remember when watching YouTube on a mobile device was actually fast and easy? Well happy days are here again! ProTube lets you instantly stream 720p HD videos nearly instantly. That’s right. No more waiting for HD videos to buffer, no more mental breakdowns because you weren’t able to stream the latest episode of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. It all just works.
All this being said, I hope you take the time to check out the app, thank the author for creating such a masterpiece, and enjoy YouTube once again. Thank you for your time, and make sure to check out Today’s iPhone again this Thursday when we will be reviewing “Rich Text for Mail”, a neat little tweak that enables a multitude of text formatting options for your Mail app. Take care.
