Italian court rules against Apple Store site

An Italian court has today ruled against Apple over its sales conduct in the Italian Apple Store.

Basically, Apple has been pushing customers to purchase AppleCare, its extended warranty plan, whenever they buy Apple products. Obviously, there’s nothing wrong with that. The problem is that Apple hadn’t been telling customers about a legally mandated two-year warranty given to all Italian retailers anyway. Sneaky huh?

The store website has since published a “Communication to protect consumers” at the top of the page, clicking it takes you to a PDF document that explains the court decision against the company. Some people think that Apple are just trying to avoid charges of contempt, Apple doesn’t say whether or not it will pay up the €1.2 million fine, or change its business practices.

In a statement, Apple confirmed they would be appealing the initial ruling, but do they really have a leg to stand on? It all looks pretty clear to me, and so I personally can’t see Apple getting away with this one.

What do you think? Have Apple been done an injustice? Or is this what they deserve?
