Unlocked iPhone 4S now available on Apple’s online store

If you head over to store.Apple.com now in the US, you can now order an unlocked iPhone 4S. The three models come in at $649, $749 and $849 for the 16GB, 32GB and 64GB capacities respectively. Shipping time is one to two weeks from time of order.

One important thing to note is that these devices will only work on GSM carriers, and will not be compatible with Sprint or Verizon’s CDMA networks. So, they’ll work on T-mobile and AT&T as well as virtually any European carrier (if you travel abroad.)

Will you be buying one unlocked? Or is it too pricey?

Guys, he's right, there's no such thing as an unlocked CDMA phone, since they don't use SIM cards.

That sucks that they aren't selling an unlocked CDMA iPhone 4S.  :(

I think its because they are worried that people may try to use both cdma and gsm on the same phone in the US. Imagine using TMo and Verizon on the same phone. A win for the customer is not something the telecoms want.

Yes, I will be buying two.  One for me and one for my future wife who is from Romania.  I have been waiting for a good, unlocked smartphone to come available .  It is so nice to be able to just buy a local sim card when traveling abroad and not have to pay the ridiculously high price for making calls with a US phone in another country.  Thank you Apple.
