How to: Enable panoramic camera in iOS 5 WITHOUT a jailbreak!
Not too long ago a hacker discovered a hidden feature in the iOS 5 – a panoramic camera. Naturally, not long after it was announced that it was possible to enable said feature (which is reportedly very near completion, though not finalized by Apple) via a jailbreak.
Nothing too surprising there. The panorama feature has been rumored for quite some time, and if there’s a way, jailbreakers will find it. What is surprising, though, is that there now appears to be a way to enable the panoramic camera feature on your iOS 5 device without a jailbreak! Check it out:
- First you have to download First iBackupBot, a free application, on your Mac or PC.Â
- Next, plug your iOS 5 device into iTunes and back it up (you’ll have to change your backup settings from ‘Back up to iCloud’ to ‘Back up to iTunes’ for this to work. You can change it back once your done).
- After your gadget is finished backing up, open iBackupBot and load the back up file you just created.Â
- Once that’s all done, within iBackupBot, navigate to Library/Preferences/com.apple.mobileslideshow.plist.Â
- Once you’re there, you’re going to have to add a bit of code. Type (or copy-and-paste) the following code:Â <key>EnableFirebreak</key><string>YES</string>
- Next all you have to do is save the file you edited and then, right in iBackupBot, restore your device with the modified backup.Â
Voila! Your phone should now have a built-in panoramic camera feature. Seeing as this feature is so near completion, I’d bet Apple will release the official version some time pretty soon. But if you just can’t wait, this is a nice alternative.
Has anyone tried this? If so, how does it work? Let me know in the comments section below or tweet me!
