Grand Central Station Apple Store set to open for holiday season – rumor

Typical Apple secrecy...

As you may or may not know, for the last few months Apple has been working to create a new retail store in Grand Central Station in New York City. This is really cool for a few reasons.

When this store opens, it will officially be the biggest Apple Store in the world! The space measures about 23,000 square feet and stretches two balconies. It’s more like an Apple super-center than a regular retail store.

Because of it’s location, it’s a good thing this Apple Store is so huge – a ridiculous amount of people pass through Grand Central every day. In fact, according to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), about 750,000 people journey through the iconic station each day. That’s not all, though, because during the holidays that number can jump to a million people daily! That quantity of people is sure to make Apple’s newest store incredibly popular.

The location of the store has been under construction for a few months and, even though Apple has yet to acknowledge that it’s even installing a store in the space, rumors are swirling that it will soon be opening! According to 9to5 Mac,

“Apple will be filling the store with stock and applying the finishing touches this week putting the  the actual opening of the store on Black Friday or shortly thereafter.  The goal all along has been to get the store open for the holiday shopping and to make a big splash with Apple’s new crown jewel of retail.”

Speaking as a resident of New York City and frequent visitor of Grand Central, I hope 9to5 Mac’s source, whoever it is, has his facts straight. But of course, as with every Apple rumor, nothing is certain until it’s confirmed. For now all we can do is wait and cross our fingers that the store will be open before long.

More and more people are buying and pre-ordering their favorite devices online and avoiding the retail experience all together. However, at the same time, there’s rarely a time when I’ve seen an Apple Store that isn’t packed with excited consumers.

So, my question is, with Apple reportedly paying over one million dollars a year to rent the Grand Central location, do you think it’ll be worth it? Or do you think the company should focus more on the online side of things? Comment down below or share your thoughts with me on twitter!
