Unlocked iPhone 4S available in the States from November – GSM only
Apple has announced that its range of 4S handsets will be available to buy unlocked from November. No specific date is given yet, but it’s good news for those of you on T-mobile, wondering if you’re going to get any 4S-lovin’. The devices will cost a handsome $649, $749 and $849 for the 16GB, 32GB and 64GB models respectively. The only downside to being on T-mobile is that your 3G bandwidths won’t be supported, and so yet again, you’ll be on EDGE only.
Of course, it’s not only Tmo subscribers that can benefit from having an unlocked iPhone. AT&T users who travel abroad often, for business or leisure, will benefit from being able to use a local Micro-SIM, instead of being charged hideous roaming rates. Plus, no contract required means overall cost could be less and no waiting for upgrades.
Unfortunately, those of you on Sprint or Verizon will not be able to take advantage, since the unlocked iPhones are not CDMA-equipped. So, who’s going to spend their life savings on one of these? Is it worth it?
