Rumor: Sprint coughs up $20 billion for iPhones – getting exclusive on iPhone 5?
Wall Street Journal is reporting that Sprint has entered in to a $20 billion deal with Apple for iPhones over the next 4 years. With the huge amount of money being spent by the US’ number 3 carrier, the company is set to lose money on the agreement until 2014. However, it does mean that we are almost guaranteed to see an iPhone on Sprint.
In the past, when it’s come to iPhone rumors, I’ve often asked that you take the speculation with a pinch of salt. With this next one I’d ask that you evaporate the Dead Sea, collect all the salt left on the bottom of the ocean bed and dive in. BGR, after reading the WSJ tweet, apparently contacted a source who stated that as part of the deal Sprint will be getting the iPhone 5 exclusively! (Sound of dropped smashing coffee cups here – followed by deathly silence.) I know, I didn’t believe it either.
According to the site, the iPhone 5 will be available – exclusively on Sprint – as a WiMAX device. I know it seems ridiculous, and I struggled to hold back the sarcastic laughs, but the article seemed serious. It’s not April 1st either, I checked my calendar. I don’t know what’s less likely: that the device would be exclusive to the third most popular carrier, or that it’s going to be WiMAX. Since Sprint itself is moving towards LTE adoption, I doubt Apple would invest/waste any time or money on this dead technology. You have to remember, the company would have to create a brand new device, with new internals and chipset just to launch on Sprint? Sorry, but I call BS.
What do you guys think? BGR’s “exclusive” rumors have been ridiculously off-target in the past few months, is there any credibility in this one?

lmao! bgr are smoking that kush kush. Which is why I never go to that site anymore. They used to be one of my go to site until they started doing some shoddy reporting.Â
