‘Goodnight iPad’: something to tell this generation

As a young child, there was no such thing as the iPad or iPhone. We did not have Twitter or Facebook either. So, when my mommy read me a story, it was extremely low-tech. One of the books that I remember the most is a little story called Goodnight Moon. For those of you who are unfamiliar with this title, It is about a little bunny trying to go to sleep and all of the things he says goodnight to.

He has a red balloon, some kittens, a cow jumping over the moon, and some mittens. It all rhymed and was overall really cute. However, over the years it has gotten pretty dated. So in a world where the last thing we say goodnight to is our favorite gadget, Ann Droyd took a stab at a more modern rendition.

The balloons and the cats, and the cow and the mittens have all been replaced with things that are a little more current. In the room, we now find a giant HD television, an iPad, some Nooks, and a Blackberry phone. Although this is obviously meant to be a parody of the classic childrens’ story, it does hold some truth. I know that my iPod is the last thing I look at before I go to sleep and the first thing I see in the morning. During the day, my life is constantly filled with electronics, and media in all forms of gadgetry. Pretty much the only time my gadgets go to sleep is when I do.

The book is available as a hard copy as well as an eBook. But, because reading is so ten-years-ago, you can watch the animated version below.
