These days I’m pretty sure that “sources” are coming up with as many rumors as they can to cover themselves. One says the next iPhone will be exactly like the iPhone 4, others say the complete opposite. The latest is that it’ll look similar to the iPhone 4 but have a metal chassis, replacing the glass back of the current version. One thing we know, at least one of these tipsters – if it’s more than one – will get to say “I was right!” And that, I’m sure is the entire motivation with spreading speculation. (The image above is of a replacement metal back that you can already purchase for your iPhone 4.)

The latest comes from the well-known source of manufacturing knowledge, DigiTimes. The site in the past has been a little hit and miss with its leaks, but has often been accurate. The only issue with this info is that it doesn’t go along with the so-called “iPhone 5 accessories” leaked a month or so back. So what’s it to be? Will the iPhone 5 have:

a) Same back as the current version, flat and glass.
b) Curved Aluminum back (iPod Touch style)
c) Curved glass back
d) Flat metal back
e) Tapered Aluminum back (MacBook Air shape)
f) Something different: made of cheese/moon rock?
