Show off that hardware: Clear iPhone 4 back plate now for sale

In January, I covered three cool ways to rock an iPhone 4, and one of the items mentioned seemed to get some attention. If you don’t recall, it was the see-through body that was custom modded, so all the hardware innards were on view. It looked like this:

The guy took apart his iPhone and used thinner to remove the black paint, and then reassembled it. Most of us thought that looked really cool, but few of us would ever attempt to do the same thing.

Well guess what — turns out anyone can sport a similar look with clear back panels sold by M.I.C Gadget. The site is selling these transparent plates (with silver, black or white frames) for just $23.90.

The expense is a mere pittance, but the cost here isn’t really in the price tag. First, it ships from Hong Kong, so forget about overnight express. And all that transparency can theoretically degrade your camera performance. (It’s purportedly the reason the more translucent white iPhone wasn’t released.) And finally, if you open your iPhone at all, you risk voiding your Apple warranty, if you have one. (Of course, it only applies if Apple can tell you opened it. Then again, with this sucker on your handset, that would be pretty tough to hide.)

But if none of these factors concern you, then hit up M.I.C. Gadget right here for more details. And if you take the leap on ordering this part from Hong Kong, definitely let us know how the change goes for you!

BTW, if you saw my video on how to change the iPhone 4 back plate and see that the metal panel I used goes in and out of stock at CNN.CN, it turns out that M.I.C. Gadget also carries it.
