New York Times hops on subscription bandwagon

The days of reading the New York Times on your iDevice for free are nearing their end. You read that right, that awesome little news app is going to be paid soon. This move comes after Apple started offering its new subscription platform that was pioneered by The Daily.

The Times is offering three digital subscription models. For $15, you’ll be able to get smart-phone and website access for one month; tablet/web access will set you back $20; for access everywhere (minus print), it’ll set you back $35.

You’ll no longer be able to get premium news articles on your iDevice from arguably one of the best newspapers in the US starting on March 28, and effective immediately in Canada.

The “paywall” will be going up on the 28, as previously stated, and will likely cause a major dip in traffic to the New York Time’s website. The Times thinks that it’s time for the accustomed free users to become paid users, if consumers want to enjoy the premium news that the Times offers.

I read it religiously every day on my iPad and iPod touch. Come March 28 I'm just going to stop. I would be happy to pay but their price points are ridiculous in my opinion.
