Apple washes away old water damage policy

All of you probably know that one of the worst things you can do to your iPod or iPhone is get it wet. Water damage accidents happen all the time. Adriana actually had a near phone-death experience just a couple of days ago. Well, the one way that Apple can tell, besides apparent damage, is by the liquid contact indicator (LCI).The LCI is located inside the bottom of the headphone jack and is the first place that Apple employees check when you bring your device in. However, reports all the way back in 2009 indicate that the LCI is super sensitive and even perspiration from your workout at the gym or just having sweaty palms could activate the LCI.

This last December, a 13-year-old girl sued Apple after they refused to repair her iPhone 3G because they believed it had come in contact with water. The girl denied that water was ever involved, but the LCI was hard evidence. After taking Apple to court, it appears that the lawsuit may have paid off after all.

igeneration.fr released this photo of the new policy:

Apple has changed its policy to state that any customer who denies that their iPod/iPhone came in contact with water may be eligible for warranty service if the device does not show external evidence of water damage or corrosion. This means that over-sensitive LCI injustices may finally be put to an end.

Do you have any experiences with false LCI indications? I’d love to hear them in the comments below.
