iPhone proposal in NYC [updated: it's a hoax!]

Last Sunday, a New Yorker named Frank popped the question to his girlfriend, Kasey. Happens everyday, right? Except he pooled the talents of all his iGeek friends to device a unique proposal in Central Park in Manhattan — complete with hidden cameras, iPhones, MacBook Pros and an on-the-fly rendition of Casey’s favorite song. Who could say no to that?

This covert operation seems like it was put out by the Mission Impossible director JJ Abrams or something. Although with all that hardware, you’d think there’d be a budget for a professional singer. But hey, it’s sweet anyway. Check it out.

UPDATE: Unfortunately, this was too good to be true. Cult of Mac reports that it was a hoax, intended to prove the effectiveness of viral video marketing. And it worked — tech media everywhere picked up this story, and it got more than 400,000 views on YouTube. TiP reader Laura, who tipped us off to this, says, “Romance is now officially dead!” *Sigh* We’re as disappointed as you are.

Here’s the vid that started it all.
