New jailbreak add-on lets you set a homepage in mobile Safari
This cool new jailbreak add-on does only one simple task, but it does it oh so well. “Home Page in Safari†lets you select any website of your choosing and make it the “go to” page (i.e. home page) when mobile Safari launches. All you have to do is select the “+” symbol, as if you wanted to save the page as a bookmark or save it to your springboard. But instead of that, you’ll select the new option to save the page as your “home.”
With iOS 4 on the iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4, this feature kind of loses its magic because of Apple’s Multitasking feature. Mobile Safari will stay open on the previous page you were viewing. To make full use of this tweak you will need to force close the Safari app by opening the multitasking bar and then deleting Safari from the list.
To get the add-on, open Cydia on your jailbroken iOS device and search for “Home Page in Safari.†(It should be located in the BigBoss repository.) If you don’t have that repo, then you will need to add this link to your sources http://apt.thebigboss.org/repofiles/cydia/. (Minus the period.)
The add-on will set you back $0.99, but I’m sure most of us would be willing to spare a dollar to have quick access to our favorite site. (I know I would.) So are any of you guys going to splurge on this new add-on, or are you better off without? Let us know in the comments.
