Jailbreak Tues: Amp up those folders with FolderEnhancer

Folders are a pretty awesome thing. Apple definitely did a good job on finally implementing this in iOS after having seen others attempt the same on other mobile platforms. And I honestly believe they did a better job at it too. But there are still some things that it lacks, features that should have been a no-brainer.

For jailbreakers who feel that the 12-app limit for folders is a bit of a cramp, you’ve got Infinfolders to turn to. But all this jailbreak tweak does is allow for unlimited apps to be stored in a single folder. This is a great thing, don’t get me wrong. But if you’re looking for more, look no further.

So what else could you want from folders? How about subfolders? (That’s a welcome thought, now isn’t it?) Japanese iOS developer Ashikase has come up with an amazing tweak to this iOS 4 feature that solves many of its shortcomings.

FolderEnhancer is a very simple, and yet very awesome tweak to the folder system. It gives you the ability to create subfolder after subfolder after subfolder, to your heart’s delight. But it doesn’t stop there. FolderEnhancer also makes the load time of your folder snappier as well, and also offers multiple pages within a folder, giving you that nice unlimited capacity we like so much from Infinfolders. And, get this — it also lets you move multiple applications in one shot. Yeah that’s right, no more of this one-by-one nonsense. Save a little time and sanity by just grabbing all the apps you want, and then filing them in a folder all at once. Don’t believe me? Check out the vid.

The only downside is that this jailbreak hack isn’t available yet, but it should be in the Cydia app store by the end of the month. I am sure it will be a huge hit. But remember: This only works on jailbroken devices. So if you haven’t done it yet, you need to be running either iOS 4 or 4.0.1 before you can grab this or any of the Cydia apps.

Unfortunately, the guys behind the scenes have yet to release the jailbreak for iOS 4.1. C’mon guys, it’s time to get on that.

Love this app. I had infinfolders on before and it copied all my folders/apps over with out missing a beat. Why do idiots blame the JB for apps that aren't yet supported in 4.1?

Actually my brother will be happy for this, he updated to 4.1 and had to Jailbreak his etc, only to find out this isn't working on it… And worst part? He has 9 – 10 screens to go through to search for stuff haha
