Next iPod Touch to tout Retina Display and dual cams?
John Gruber of Daring Fireball, a man with strong ties to Apple and a great track record, hints that the fourth generation iPod Touch will be released in a few weeks. He goes on to say the new model will sport dual cameras and a Retina display:
That’s almost twice as much as a good iPod Touch, and if you wait a few weeks to buy the Touch, you’ll get one with a Retina Display and dual cameras. If Dell can’t make an iPod Touch competitor, who can?
.
As we’ve previously reported, iOS 4.1 beta has shown us FaceTime associations based on email address, allowing devices without SIM cards to video chat. A perfect solution for an iPod with a front-facing camera. A rear facing camera does pose a problem though, as neither the iPhone 4′s camera nor the 3GS’s camera will fit in the current iPod Touch chassis.
Of course, it wouldn’t be ridiculous to speculate that Apple either modifies the design of the iPod Touch or uses a smaller camera to make everything fit. Regardless, Apple does update its iPods every September, so I’d feel safe in laying bets that a new iPod Touch is in the works. If you are in the market to buy, I’d suggest holding off for a little while longer before taking the plunge, to see how much of this might pan out.
