Laptop-ify your iPad

The iPad’s on-screen keyboard has been probably the most ergonomic one that a display QWERTY could ever get. Still, it leaves somewhat to be desired. Apple released a keyboard dock for those of us who prefer the feel of a key being punched in when we type. That’s all great for desktop use, but what about portable use? That’s what you got your iPad for in the first place right?

Well, ClamCase seems to provide a perfect solution. Although not available until Fall of this year, this product gives the user a keyboard that is just as portable as the iPad itself. The Clamcase connects via Bluetooth, while hooking on to the side of your iPad and leaving the dock connector free — which is handy if you need to give it some juice while you’re at it.

With a 360 Flip design you are able to position your device any way you want. If you don’t need the hardware QWERTY one moment, but would rather use the on screen keyboard instead, you can move it out of the way and turn it into a stand for your iPad.

Heck you don’t even need to use it for any of these features I just mentioned. If nothing else, this keyboard offers some pretty nice protection for your tablet, keeping items in your bag from damaging the screen. That’s probably the biggest incentive for me, seeing as I’m the most clumsy guy I know.

So is this enough to make you skip out on that Mac purchase you had in mind? Or does the iPad still not have that computing power you are looking for? I know TiP writer Justin Rutherford has been having some issues going all iPad since his laptop died. He’ll be filling us in later this week on whether the iPad was an adequate replacement to fulfill his computing needs, so if you’re curious, don’t forget to check back for that.
